Eurovision bosses are said to be thinking of new ways that would make the contest fair and eliminate ‘block voting’. In an Interview with british newspaper ‘The Guardian’, the head of Eurovision, Sven Stockselius has said “”Every year, we evaluate and debrief each contest. We will discuss these things there. We did a couple of big changes to this year’s event, with the introduction of two semi-finals. We do not exclude that we will look into different changes for next year.”"
This year’s broadcast of The Eurovision Song Contest in the United Kingdom managed to pull in 7.1 million viewers, compared to last year’s massive 8.7 million although the BBC are said to be very happy with the ratings and have confirmed that they will not be withdrawing anytime soon.
When asked whether the Eurovision could survive without the money of the Big 4 Countries, the response was “”Of course we would have to look into funding, but we have such big sponsorship now it could manage,” he said. “It would be a point of discussion.”
So what does this mean for 2009?, a third semi final?, a withdrawl of the big four? stick with esctime for all of the latest developments.
