Latvijas TelevÄ«zija has declared the details and rules of submitting a song in 2009. Eurovision Song Contest national selection in Latvia is called “Eirodziesmu”. The submission deadline will end 30th November 2008.
This year the competition has undergone several major changes. Unlike in previous years, songs by foreign composers is limited. Therefore, foreign artists cannot have more than one-third influence of their participating songs. Moreover, the potential participants may not participate in the Latvian national final if they have applied in other countries’ national finals. The song performers must be a Latvian citizens or persons considered Latvian in Latvian legislation.
Also, there is a change in the format in 2009. There will now be three semifinals in which 10 songs will reach the finals. From each semi judges will select three songs to make the final and the tenth song will be sent through by television viewers.
National selection in Latvia is traditionally held in the Olympic Center in Ventspils, on 28th February.
