Eurovision Dance Contest - Analyzing the votes
September 8, 2008 at 9:55 am

At 06.09.08 the second contest of the EDC became reality in Glasgow. Graham Norton and Claudia Winkleman being once again the hosts in a Live Show more than 2 hours ,prooved us that they were good as the first time. 28 dancers from 14 different European countries performed live on stage , the jury with the televoters decided for the best.  Taking a look to the statistics , we can see that:

  • Greece is the only country from the Balcans and the Medditerenean sea that is taking part.
  • Lithuania,Russia,Azerbaijan and Ukraine are the only countries by the  former U.S.S.R.
  • Only the Uk from the Big 4 (ESC Countries) is taking part
  • Austria is only taking part in the EDC  ,and not in the ESC or JESC

Analyzing the Vote’s :

If only the Jury would vote then the winner would be Denmark,

below you may see the votes of the jury

  1. Denmark : 48 points (4×12)
  2. Greece: 40 points (4×10)
  3. Lithuania: 32 points (4×8)
  4. Azerbaijan: 28 points (4×7)
  5. Russia: 24 points (4×6)
  6. Poland: 20 points (4×5)
  7. Ukraine: 16 points (4×4)
  8. Finland: 12 points (4×3)
  9. United Kingdom: 8 points (4×2)
  10. Sweden: 4 points (4×1)
  11. Portugal
    Netherlands
    Ireland
    Austria

The “Black List”-Similarities with the Televoting in the ESC

The Irish Audience gave their 12 points to Poland , their 10 points to Lithuania and their 8 to the Uk.As we can see , similar points Ireland gave in the ESC  to the same countries. In the final of the ESC , Ireland gives their 12 to Isis Gee from Poland and their 8 to the Uk. As we know many Polish people are living in Ireland so its abvious to vote for their country Poland. At ESC 2006 Ireland gave 10 points to Lithuania.

The Uk exchanged their 8 Points with Ireland. The Irish 8 points the last years are for the Uk in the ESC.Sweden gaves 12 points to  their neighbours Finland. Finland gave 12 points to their neighbours Russia and Portugal once again (as in the ESC) gave the 12 points to Ukraine.Portugal gives 12 points to Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2006. Russia exchanged 12points with  Ukraine and gave 10 points to Azerbiajan, two countries by the former U.S.S.R.  Azerbaijan does the same giving 12 to Ukraine and 8 to Russia. Last but not least Lithuania does the same , 12 to Azerbiajan and 10 to Russia.

The only fair and clear votes were given by Greece,The Netherlands,Austria and some by the Uk.

The Results of the EDC

  1. Poland - 154
  2. Russia - 121
  3. Ukraine - 119
  4. Lithuania - 110
  5. Azerbaijan - 106
  6. Denmark - 102
  7. Greece - 72
  8. Portugal - 61
  9. United kingdom - 47
  10. Finland - 44
  11. Ireland - 40
  12. Sweden - 38
  13. Austria - 29
  14. Nehterlands - 1

My Opinion is that a contest like EDC is good idea to be Organized beacause the EBU gives a chance to the European Dancers to show their talent and let the European audience learn more about Dance. About the televoting Im sorry to say that EDC is becoming like ESC. Neighbours are voting for their Neighbours and its easy to know the results before we are going to see the televoting. It was a very good idea that a Jury voted about 25%.It would be better if EBU would let the Jury to vote about 60% and Audience 40% , not only in the EDC but in the ESC also !!

If you have any opinion about EDC, id be grateful to see your comments !!

See you in the Junior Eurovision “Song” Contest !!
